Busy Public Area? You Need Some Reception Furniture Advice

November 15th, 2009 by managementskills

If you work in a reception area of a business then you are likely to come across children entering your building on a daily basis. People that work in a reception area will also be aware that children can cause a lot of mess if they are not well-behaved in a public space, so it might be a good idea to know of some ways to help keep things under control a little bit more.

The first thing to remember is that children have no concept of making something messy or untidy, so it is likely that they will come in and wreak havoc if the parents aren’t watching them in the reception area. Take reception furniture for example – this can get damaged very quickly if children are around with crayons and suchlike. Reception furniture isn’t cheap and it will be your job to look after it and prevent major damage to every individual piece. With this in mind, the tips below should help you prevent children making a large mess in your reception area.

Magazines – children are often drawn to things like magazines, mainly because they feel nice and are brightly coloured. Once children get hold of your magazines, they could start drawing on them or ripping them to shreds. So, instead of putting these on a coffee table or something, it is wise to tuck them away in a suitable magazine stand or even place a rack on the wall. Any magazine rack you place on the wall is a great idea, as it makes it much more convenient to adults and less convenient to children, which is the objective. This will inevitably help to keep your public area tidier.

Food and Drink – before people enter your reception area, make sure a sign is visible informing visitors that food and drink is not allowed. Your reception furniture can quickly become damaged if you don’t display a sign like this, as people spill drinks etc. The mess children make can leave you with a nasty shock at the end of the day when you find biscuits and blackcurrant juice soaked over your beautiful beige reception furniture. Therefore, if a visitor enters holding any food item or drink, just kindly ask them to dispose of it.

These tips should help you keep your reception furniture looking as good as new, and your reception area should stay neat and tidy.
